I did a quick sketch of the barred owl that was spotted in downtown Ottawa last week. I had originally heard about it on CBC radio where I found the picture for the sketch.
I thought that it was interesting to read on the WWF website that the owl was being "harassed by a gang of crows (apparently this is sporting activity for crows)." Folks I know have been talking about an amazing documentary that they watched on crows (available in HD online). This documentary promises to "shock and amaze viewers and change how people look at the common crow." It definitely had that effect on folks that I know.
The second piece is a cut-out of sky from a magazine. I overlaid it with some black. This was my first attempt at an "Illustration Friday" prompt using the word "wilderness".
It wasn't "post-worthy" but it was fun to sit with one word (wilderness) and receive my visual reaction to the word. For me, it had to have a canoe.

Barred owls are the best. I have had the privilege of holding them (at a rehab center) on many occasions. They're actually cuddly -- but don't tell them that. Very nice sketch. You caught the owl essence.
